This map shows the remaining serpentine barrens on the east coast of the United States with the majority occurring in Maryland and Pennsylvania. These unique landscapes once covered 100,000 acres across central Maryland and southern Pennsylvania but have severely depleted due to land development and fire suppression. These barrens are now considered endangered ecosystems. *This map was created for educational purposes and is not recognized as an official map east coast serpentine barrens. Habonim Dror Camp Moshava, a summer camp in Harford County, Maryland, is a collaborative, caring community immersed in creative learning that empowers youth leadership and nurtures a connection to Israel and Jewish culture.
